banana bread with cream cheese

I love baking with cream cheese. The tangy flavor of the cheese pairs well with any sweet dessert including this moist banana bread recipe.

Banana bread is one recipe I think EVERYONE has written down somewhere! Whether it is a recipe that has been passed down from family member to family member or a recipe that was given to you by a coworker or friend, EVERYONE HAS A BANANA BREAD RECIPE!!

In my case, my banana bread recipe was given to me by a co-worker many years ago and since then I’ve tweaked her recipe making it my very own. When she handed me her recipe, she used coconut milk as one of her ingredients. To be honest, I found coconut milk dried my banana bread. I’ve also tried cottage cheese but the flavor seemed a bit off, FINALLY, I came across sour cream and have been using it since. I find it adds the perfect moisture to the bread and has zero flavor.

Today, I have some ripe bananas that are just begging to be baked, only this time, my banana bread recipe will be baked with some delicious lactose-free cream cheese!

Let’s go!

  • This recipe is easy to put together.

Recipe At A Glance:

Banana Bread

Eggs: Two eggs at room temperature. The eggs act as a binder to hold the batter together.

Butter: For this recipe, you will need half a cup of melted butter. I used Lactantia lactose free butter but any kind will work.

Banana: three ripe bananas mashed.

Vanilla Extract: You will need 2 tbsp.

Sour Cream: Half a cup of sour cream. You can substitute the sour cream for coconut milk, although I do not recommend it, as my batch came out dry when using coconut milk.

Flour: One and a half cups of all-purpose flour.

Brown Sugar: Half a cup of brown sugar.

Granulated Sugar: Half a cup of granulated sugar.

Baking Soda: One tsp of baking soda.

Cinnamon: One tsp of cinnamon.

Salt: I am guilty of not adding salt to my baked goods and have to keep reminding myself to do so. Do not forget the salt, it adds flavor!

Cream Cheese Filling

Cream Cheese: One brick of lactose free cream cheese.

Vanilla Extract: For taste.

Salt: For taste.

Flour: So the cream cheese doesn’t sink to the bottom.

Sugar: For sweetness.
