Hamburger Macaroni Casserole

This homemade hamburger macaroni casserole is SUUPPPERRR simple to make and only requires five simple ingredients.

You know the saying, “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it” welllll …. this recipe is exactly that! When I saw my husband first make this dish, I thought “What the heck” but after the first bite, I was instantly hooked and had to go for seconds.

What makes this dish great, is the simplicity of it! All you need is two cans of tomato soup, macaroni pasta, ground beef, and shredded cheese. THATS IT! The most simple yet delicious five-ingredient dish.

You have to try it!

What Does Lactose Free Mean?

First and foremost, I bake and cook using lactose-free ingredients! These ingredients can include, butter, milk, cream cheese etc.

Contrary to what some may believe, lactose–free is not the same as dairy-free. Lactose–free still contains milk, however, there is a certain component, I believe a type of sugar (I may be wrong) where the lactose is removed from dairy, making it lactose–free. Dairy free on the other hand, contains ZERO milk. Alternatives for dairy-free are almond milk, oat milk, soy milk etc. You can learn more about the differences here.

Hamburger Macaroni Casserole - ingredients

Equipment Needed:

Crock Pot: For the ingredients.

Spoon: For mixing.

Measuring Cup: For accurate measurements.

Cooking Pot: To cook the pasta.

Cheese Grater: To shred the cheese.

Fry Pan: For cooking your ground beef

Can Opener: To open the tomato soup.

Step By Step Instructions:

Step One:

Gather all your ingredients, measure everything then set aside.

Step Two:

Turn your stove on to medium heat and place the frying pan over top. Add your ground beef, salt and pepper and begin cooking.

You can add more spices to this dish if you want. You can add garlic ginger, onions and red pepper flakes, this is totally up to you, or you can keep it simple.

Step Three:

In a pot add in your macaroni pasta and cook until tender.

Step Four:

Plug in your crock pot and turn it on low. Before you drain the pasta, take about one cup of the pasta water and add it to your crock pot.

Once your ground beef is fully cooked, and your pasta is drained add EVERYTHING to your crock pot.

Mix everything, add in your tomato soup and allow to cook on low for about 15-20 minutes.

Step Five:

While you wait, go ahead and start grating your lactose-free cheese. You will need about one to two cups of shredded cheese. Feel free to add more for extra cheesiness.

Step Six:

After about 15-20 minutes layer the shredded cheese over top your ground beef and macaroni mixture and allow the cheese to melt for about five to ten minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

Tips And Variations:

  • The best part of this dish is the versatility of it. You can keep it simple or add as many spices to the dish as you wish, such as red pepper flakes, garlic, ginger.
  • I used lactose free cheese, but feel free to use ingredients that are not lactose free.
  • Don’t over cook the pasta or it will get soggy once you add it to the crock pot.
  • If you don’t have a crock pot, not a problem. You can use a large cooking pot instead.
  • If you are not in the mood to grate your own cheese, you can purchase shredded cheese at your local grocery store.
