cream cheese frosting

Cream cheese frosting is probably the best frosting in the whole wide world … At least that is my opinion. Lucious, creamy, and full of flavor, something this good can be eaten easily by the spoonful!

The trick to achieving a creamy texture is having room temperature ingredients!

First begin by having … ROOM TEMPERATURE INGREDIENTS, I can’t stress this enough. The key to any frosting is to not have cold ingredients. Add the butter first to the KitchenAid bowl, you will need the paddle attachment for this recipe. Cream the butter until silky soft. You will notice a slight change in color in the butter after it’s been mixed enough to a nice creamy texture. Next, add the cream cheese and begin mixing again for about five minutes on high speed. Add vanilla extract and salt and once again mix mix mix. Now the fun part, if your mixer has a lid I recommend using it because powdered sugar can get messy. Add in the powdered sugar and mix on high until everything is fully combined.

There you have it, cream cheese frosting!

What Does Lactose Free Mean?

First and foremost, I try my best to incorporate lactose free ingredients in all my recipes. These ingredients can include, butter, milk, cream cheese etc. With that being said, sometimes it is hard to make an entire recipe using ALL lactose free ingredients. For example, my ice cream recipes include, condensed milk- NOT LACTOSE FREE.

Contrary to what some may believe, lactose – free is not the same as dairy free. Lactose – free still contains milk, however, there is a certain component, I believe a type of sugar (I may be wrong) where the lactose is removed from dairy, making it lactose – free. Dairy free on the other hand, contains ZERO milk. Alternatives for dairy free are almond milk, oat milk, soy milk etc. You can learn more about the differences here.

Which Ingredients Are Lactose Free?

  • Butter – I used lactose free butter
  • Cream Cheese – I used lactose told free cream cheese

Frequently Asked Questions?

Why is my cream cheese frosting runny?

Over mixing the batter can cause it to be runny, or adding too much liquid. To fix this, store the batter into the fridge to harden the butter and cream cheese a bit or add some more powdered sugar. Remember, the more powdered sugar you add, the more sweet the batter will be.

Do I need to use lactose free butter and cream cheese?

Of course not! Lactose free options are more for my own personal preference. Feel free to use ingredients that are not lactose free.

What does cream cheese frosting taste like?

Cream cheese frosting has a bit of a tangy flavor from the cream cheese but the powdered sugar balances the tangy flavor.
