Soft and fluffy hamburger buns

This past weekend, the temperature outside was sitting at -36 and the last thing my family and I wanted to do was leave the house to grab hamburger buns. Instead of braving the cold, I decided to find a hamburger bun recipe online and made some at home. Thanks to Alyonas Cooking I found one of the best hamburger bun recipes online. See her original recipe here

As always, be sure to measure EVERYTHING first! This will keep you organized and clean. Once you’ve measured everything, add yeast and sugar to warm water. Allow the yeast to bloom before moving to the next step. Next, add flour to the Kitchen Aid mixer bowl, salt, eggs and oil, as well as the test mixture. Mix everything until fully combined. Lastly, allow the dough to rise before rolling the dough into balls and baking.

The original recipe called for 1/2 cup of shortening, however, I used 1/2 cup of oil instead. Both work great!

What Does Lactose Free Mean?

First and foremost, I try my best to incorporate lactose free ingredients in all my recipes. These ingredients can include, butter, milk, cream cheese etc. With that being said, sometimes it is hard to make an entire recipe using ALL lactose free ingredients. For example, my ice cream recipes include, condensed milk- NOT LACTOSE FREE.

Contrary to what some may believe, lactose – free is not the same as dairy free. Lactose – free still contains milk, however, there is a certain component, I believe a type of sugar (I may be wrong) where the lactose is removed from dairy, making it lactose – free. Dairy free on the other hand, contains ZERO milk. Alternatives for dairy free are almond milk, oat milk, soy milk etc. You can learn more about the differences here.

Which Ingredients Are Lactose Free?

  • Zero. I did not use any lactose free ingredients for this recipe.
